Whether your Whippet is just a puppy or fully grown, chews are a great way to keep your dog occupied and prevent them from destroying other non-safe items in your house! You can prevent expensive emergency vet and/or dental visits with supervised and appropriate chews. As a general rule, look for options that are “soft” enough on your dog’s teeth since anything too hard runs the risk of breaking or chipping them! - Yak Cheese Chews
- Beef Cheek Rolls – You can stuff and freeze!
- Pig Ears – Can be a little oily so just monitor where they are chewing this!
- Cow hooves (note: these stink!)
We recommend you try out a few options to see which ones your Whippet likes best! Make sure to supervise your Whippet with any chew to prevent choking on smaller pieces.
But wait … are there any chews that should be avoided altogether?!
Be wary of anything that is too hard on your dog’s teeth like elk antlers. While some dogs have been ok with them, they have sometimes resulted in cracked teeth! Also avoid rawhide (pictured) as this can expand in the stomach and cause an unwanted blockage. As always, chews should be supervised and once the chew gets to the size of approximately 1″ long it should be discarded.
